Hoffer and Osmond set out to prove that the symptoms of schizophrenia could be controlled with healthy, unprocessed food and large doses of vitamins. 60 years later, it looks like they may have been right.

  • Concise & Powerful Look into UNDERSTANDING Mental Illness

This documentary interviews recovered patients and graduates in psychiatry and modern medicine in relation to mental illness. The film describes the history of treatment (or lack thereof) in medicinal treatment of the mentally ill. Then the film asserts that the brain and body's functionality is closely correlated with the nutritional content consumed by people. It is also explained that psychiatry is heavily biased by the pharmaceutical industry and the film attempts to contrast this view with the idea that mental illnesses are often treatable with nutrition and full understanding of the illness rather than treated with prescriptions and or held in an institution for the remainder of one's living years. It's very concise and informational. The interviewed approach these problems with a reasonable and 'human' approach, without fanaticism about any sort of "miracle cure". I highly recommend this for anyone interested or studying in Psychology, nutrition, and or psychiatry.

  • Beautiful treatment option

I was once on anti-psychotic medications for schizophrenia and I wasn't doing well. The drugs were taking my life by diminishing all my vital organs and destroying my confidence in taking care of myself. I didn't quite know it at the time, but the meds had given me cancer in a few parts of my body. I was shown this documentary a few months after it's release and I immediately dedicated my life to the way of living described in this movie: to learn how to control your own health. This treatment method was developed in the 1950s & 1960s, but just like the idea of taking care of your own health, it should always be in an experimental stage. No matter the mental or physical condition, I find this documentary helps anybody live a proper balance. After a few years of work on myself and a few close calls, I am thriving extremely well, despite the "death sentence" of a diagnosis that is schizophrenia. It all began with universally respectful research the scientists offer in this movie. The movie could've been put together in a more artistic format to make it more entertaining, but since the content is so important and accurate, it still gets 10/10 from me.
