• Better than expected

  Considering that MLP just completed its 8th season and they've already done Christmas episodes, I wasn't sure how much energy they had for left for this. My worries were unnecessary as they really landed this one. The ponies have several story-lines as they search for Christmas presents, and each one has its own unique tone and message to it and the whole special works pretty well.

• Surprisingly Very Good!

  At first I thought this would be your average television-show Christmas special, but I was definitely wrong! This was actually a really good MLP TV Special. It was always interesting and I never got bored. It was also really funny, and I also really liked the references to other Christmas films, like Elf and A Charlie Brown Christmas. It also had a really good message! Plus, this film got me really excited for MLP season 9! Highly recommend to fans of MLP and anyone who just generally loves Christmas films! 8/10

• Merry uh, Halloween?

  You'd think at this time of year they'd be making a special about the Nightmare Night Festival. Always great to have Christmas stuff, or rather Heart's Warming Eve. This is the length of two episodes or a two parter. You'd think it would be about the characters facing some major problem or a monster. Instead, it's just all these individual stories about the Mane 6 and Spike trying to get their friend a present. We get to see reindeer! They don't seem to be Santa's reindeer. In fact, I don't think this holiday has any equivalent of Santa Claus. It does get a lot more adventurous and interesting near the end. With all this going on, the pacing is easily the strongest part of the special. Of course, we can watch this all day just looking at the beautiful facial expressions and features. I knew Discord would be cooking up some kind of mischief. ****

• Maybe the gift should have given some quality to this movie

  "My Little Pony: Best Gift Ever" is a new American animated short film from 2018 and the popularity of this one shows that the My Little Pony franchise is far from finished. Oh well, I won't say too much about the writers and directors here apart from that it is more people working on this project than you'd expect for a short film slightly under 45 minutes. And even if it was released back in october already, this is a Christmas special, which probably also explains its popularity on imdb at this very moment. Cast list here includes a hanfdul of fairly known names for voice acting like Tara Strong of course. Some of the actors are doing a decent job, others I found relatively annoying to listen to I cannot deny. So the story is the decisive factor and I was not really sold here. Struggled hard in developing any emotions or hopes for the characters, which may not only have to do with the plot here, but certainly also with the animation style. I am somebody who really enjoys a good kids film, animated or not, but I have never been too big on MLP I must say. That's why the outcome for me is not surprising and I cannot deny there is some subjective component to it for sure. But yeah, chances are high you have seen quite a lot from this MLP universe already if you consider checking out this very new installment, so you don't need my opinion that I do not recommend the watch here and give it a thumbs-down because I felt it dragged and not a single production value really won me over. You can decide for yourself I'm sure. Do it.
